When dashboard tiles lie about product behavior
A rising adoption chart can still hide empty sessions. Bind every tile to a depth signal before you brief leadership.
Product behavior dashboards love green arrows. A feature tile climbs after launch, the release note celebrates adoption, and support quietly fields tickets about users who never finished the first flow.
The gap is usually definitional. The tile counts an open or a first click; the product only delivers value after a save, a completed task, or time past an empty state. Without that depth signal, the dashboard reports curiosity as behavior.
When we audit a dashboard set, we ask owners to name the depth event for each celebrated metric before we pull data. Otherwise the pack only restates charts the team already distrusts.
